It has been awhile since my last blog! I promise I will do better! Since my last blog Tyler and I watched the #1 Florida Gators play MSU, the dawgs put up a fight and were even tied 13-13 at halftime but during the second half they fumbled, threw interceptions and one ball carrier tripped over his own feet which led to the loss.
Halloween was this past weekend and Tyler and his friends Nate, Sky, Jonah and Dan all dressed up to go to a celebration at Andrew’s lake apartment. Most of the boys went as famous fishermen/hunters except for Sky who wrote book on his face…and was facebook. It took me a minute but once I figured it out I thought it was clever! Tyler and I went as Johnny and June Cash, it was pretty easy to do which was important because we decided on what/who we wanted to be at 4 when the Halloween party started at 7. The best part of the evening was spraying Tyler’s hair black, by the end his ears and neck were almost as dark as his hair!
Sunday night we had the pleasure of meeting Tyler’s professor, Dr. Kroger’s parents who are visiting from Australia for the next four weeks. They have lived all over the world and it was so interesting to hear their stories! We had a Brazilian meal, freshwada (I’m sure that is spelled incorrectly!) and I thought it was really good, which is rare for me considering how picky I generally am!
The weather in Starkville has been absolutely beautiful! It has been in the mid 70’s for almost two weeks! Earlier this week my North Dakota friend, Val and I went on a picnic to enjoy the gorgeous weather. While we were sitting in a park eating our wraps and grapes it awed me that we could still do this in November!
I think this weekend will be quiet considering most of our friends will be leaving town, making it a good time for Tyler to catch up on his “honey-do” list!

Warning: I need to vent!
The time has come to complain. I really did not want this blog to turn into something that was just me complaining about our new home, but the time has come for me to vent about a couple of habits of the citizens of Starkville!!
The first thing about Starkville that drove me nuts was the driving! Before moving I was told numerous times that “Everything moves slower in the South.” But nothing moves as slow as Starkville drivers turning the corner! They have to come to a complete stop to make their turn. Nothing is more frustrating then slamming on your breaks at a green light! If more then one person is turning then you might not make it through the green light.
Second, there is trash everywhere! I know that in Iowa there is litter, but the littering down here is out of control! In front of our apartment, roadsides and even in our pool! There are two garbage cans in the pool area and someone was too lazy to walk the 10 feet and throw their pop bottle in the trash.
Okay, I feel better now. Other then the complaints it really has been a good transition for Tyler and I. We have made some great friends, some of which live in our apartment complex so it is almost like a mini family. We go on walks, play games, watch football and even have craft time together! Its ironic I came all the way to Mississippi to make friends with girls from Minnesota and North Dakota! All of Tyler’s friends are from “Up north,” Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Illinois, Nebraska and even Missouri!

GO DAWGS!
I have officially experienced my first SEC football game! Tyler was at the MSU vs. LSU game a few weeks ago, but I stayed home because I didn't want to stand in the rain so last Saturday was my first SEC football game. Tyler was able to get me season tickets in the student section from a graduate student who didn't want their tickets.
It was quiet the experience. The first thing I noticed was all of the dresses. Girls in the south wear dresses, I had already noticed the lack of pants at Wal-Mart and church but I didn't expect to see so many dresses at a football game! At UNI nearly everyone would wear some sort of purple and gold, but here the girls wear dresses! While most of the girls were wearing sun dresses, I did see some girls in dresses I would wear to eat at a nice restaurant.
Another thing I noticed about the MSU student section, they have no respect for the students who are sitting below them in the stands. They are constantly throwing their drinks. Something good happens and they throw their pop then something bad happens and they throw their pop! Luckily we were up high enough no one threw anything on us, but it was amazing to watch the MSU score then just watch the cups fly through the air! I just don't understand throwing something when you had just paid for it seconds earlier!!
We have homecoming this week against Houston, which I think is a pretty good team, then an away game before we play Florida and Ole Miss at home, so it looks like we will be watching some good football! I will most defiantly be wearing maroon and white and my blue jeans, and hopefully we will always be high enough to avoid the flying coke! :)

A little visitor!
Yesterday we had two unexpected visitors...one I didn't mind, Tyler may have, and one we both wanted out of our apartment!
Our first visitor came unannounced and startled me a little. I was watching TV sitting on the couch when my door opened. It was Twyala's little boy, at two years old it was all he could to do reach our door knob. He opened the door, smiled, waved and said 'Hi' then shut the door.
I don't generally leave the door unlocked so I'm not too worried that the kids just come walk in without me noticing. I think he could hear the TV and just wanted to say Hi. I just laughed because Tyler is always joking about the kids wanting in our apartment, saying that if we let them in they will never leave. haha Yesterday this wasn't the case, he just wanted to see what I was doing! lol
Our other visitor didn't come through the door! As I was brushing my teeth last night before bed I looked in the mirror and saw something crawling on the ceiling. I didn't have my glasses on so I called for Tyler, I thought it might have been a spider...which I want nothing to do with after my incident a year ago!
Nope it was a cockroach! Tyler has been compulsively spraying the doors and windows to keep the darn things out of our apartment and this guy sneaks in through a air vent on the bathroom ceiling! Luckily I have Tyler and he killed the cockroach before he could get where else in our apartment!

Growing up I never thought I'd say I miss Iowa...
When I was growing up in the middle of nowhere I always imagined getting out of Iowa. I wanted to be somewhere exciting, fast paced with a lot of people. I never thought I'd end up wanting to go back to those corn fields.
Of course my ten year old mind had no idea leaving Iowa would mean living in "Starville, Missippi"- That is how they pronounce it...somehow in the thirteen hours down south the Starkville, loses its 'K' and Mississippi loses a set of 'ss.'
Effective communication...I really miss effective communication. We are always repeating ourselves because people can't understand us. I'm sure they feel the same when they go north! I don't know how many times Tyler is asked, "Boy, where you from?" And once at the McDonalds drive thru the worker said, "Yankee I can't get you, drive up and order here."
Other then being able to just ask a question once, I really miss Target. The state of Mississippi does have Target stores, but not Starkville! We have to drive two hours to our nearest Target. Starkville does have Wal-Mart, which is actually really nice but is always full! I've gone in the morning, afternoon, evening and late at night it is always busy. While on the topic of stores I miss..I really miss the convenience of a mall. I was really surprised when I found out there was no mall in a college town.
But there are a lot of Dollar Generals! In just the mile around our apartment complex i think there are three or four. And there are a ton of car washes! There has to be four or five around our apartment complex.
I guess that’s just apart of moving down here! Before the move everyone said it would be a whole new world and they were right!
